The National Skill Development Corporation has notified “Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY)” (a Phase II of the STAR Scheme) which aims to skill unemployed youth is the flagship outcome based skill training Scheme of the new Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
The Objective of the skill certification and reward scheme is to enable and mobilize a large number of Indian youth to take up outcome based skill training and become employable and earn their livelihood.
The training courses of PMKVY is based on the approved QPs (a set of National Occupational Standards) to the Leather Sector is as follows :

This Institute is affiliated with Leather Sector Skill Council to conduct a “Placement linked skill training program for unemployed Youth” funded by Tamil Nadu Skill development corporation (TNSDC), Govt of Tamil Nadu to facilitate the unemployed segment to develop the skill solutions with hands on training by Central footwear Training Institute (CFTI, Chennai) and place them at appropriate demand in the industry as per the requisite skilled manpower needed to sustain the envisioned growth of the leather/ Footwear, leather goods and Leather Garments industry and setting a foundation for the country to emerge as a global leader.

CSIR-CLRI is an apex body catering to Research and Development (R&D), Human Resource Development (HRD) and other services for the benefit of the leather industry. CSIR-CLRI has supported the leather industry’s growth over the decades.
CFTI in association with CSIR-CLRI has been actively involved in skill training for the artisans in various job roles of the leather products industry.
CFTI has effectively implemented several skill development initiatives over the past 5 years for empowerment and upgradation of the traditional leather artisans through necessary programs, thereby reaching out to the associated clusters

Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB), established in 1970, implements various rehabilitation and resettlement programme to improve the livelihood of the slum families in Tamil Nadu.

CFTI, Chennai as a training partner has undertaken the total order of 5000 candidates from Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade for training under “Placement linked Entry level training for unemployed youth” for the year 2018-19 and 10000 candidates for the year 2019-20. CFTI, Chennai has successfully conducting the Skill Training for the 150000 candidates in throughout India under the HRD scheme. The scale of training by CFTI, Chennai is carried out by training at the shop floors of companies and also setting up training centres at candidates nearby place. The pre survey taken from the MSME helps CFTI, Chennai to place trained candidates after successful completion of training.
DPIIT Secondary Skill Upgradation training enhanced the Skill standard for the
existing employees from the lower level to higher level/ Multi skill category
which would lead in productivity and quality of the Products & Industry
CFTI was awarded 5000 numbers to be trained for the year 2019-20. CFTI has
successfully completed secondary skill training to 5000 candidates for the year
2019-20.
Tamilnadu Minority Economic Development Corporation (TAMCO) – Training Programme under the “Kaushal Se Kushalta” Scheme for the Year 2019-20, has awarded atraining programme to train and place 120 Minorities candidates at Walajabad, Vaniyambadi & Ambur.
CFTI has successfully completed training and placement for 80 minority candidates in the Jobroles of Stitcher (Goods & Garments) and Pre Assembly Operator (Footwear) at Walajabad and Vaniyambadi centres during the year 2019-20
